Uses and Benefits
Red light therapy has been studied and tested across hundreds of peer – reviewed clinical trials, with overwhelmingly positive results for skin health, collagen production, weight loss, physical performance & muscle recovery, sleep, pain management, inflammation, and a lot more. And that’s without drugs, radiation, chemicals, UV rays, invasive procedures, or other common side effects to other common procedures. Doctors, celebrities, NFL stars, NBA teams, Olympians, world – class trainers, natural health leaders, and leading spas & gyms are using red light therapy every day for these natural health benefits
Red – light therapy, and research into its anti – aging effects, was first carried out by NASA. In the early 1990’s a NASA sponsored research at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. They worked to develop a plant growth chamber using Near Infrared Light Technology experiments on the space shuttle missions. They found that while testing red light the astronauts benefited vastly by being exposed to this light also. Clinical treatment trials into red light therapy soon followed in the USA and across much of Europe. As the clinical evidence of light therapy grew, researchers started to notice a correlation between the conditions being treated by light therapy and those being treated with Low – level Laser Therapy (LLLT). LLLT is a clinical practice which involves treating specific body parts with a concentrated beam of NIR light that has been further energized by radiation. LLLT had shown significant promise i n both skincare and weight loss applications to date. At first, it was believed that the improvement in skin conditions and weight seen in the studies were due to the effect of the laser. But, with mounting evidence of
NIRLT’s efficacy, researchers began looking at the spectrum of natural light being used in both procedures to credit for the success of the studies. Over the years the uses of that (NIRLT) – Red – light Therapy technology, in the spectrum range of 635nm to 850nm, has been expounded upon and used in the medical field for its healing properties.
Basics of a Light Therapy
A high – quality red light therapy device, like the ones offered at Triveda Wellness, uses medical – grade lights to deliver concentrated wavelengths of natural light to your skin and cells, without dangerous UV rays or excess heat. Not just any light will do. Only the safest, most proven wavelengths will deliver optimal health benefits. Natural light is a wide spectrum encompassing many wavelengths and colors. Leading photomedicine re searchers have found in numerous peer – reviewed studies that a narrow band of red and near infrared light is the clinical sweet spot for health and safety. The best light therapy devices use these proven wavelengths: red light in the mid – 600 nanometer range , and near infrared light in the mid – 800s. The use of red – light therapy at 633nm, has no significant risk and is completely safe including on the eyes. Red – light penetrates tissue to a depth of 8 – 10 mm, delivering energy to stimulate a response from the body to heal itself.
Red Light Therapy (RLT) works by producing a biochemical effect in cells that strengthens the mitochondria. The mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell — it’s where the cell’s energy is created. The energy – carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things is called ATP (adenosine triphosphate). By increasing the function of the mitochondria using RLT, a cell can make more ATP. With more energy, cells can function more efficiently, rejuvenate themselves and repair damage. In adipocytes (cells that store fat), the energization causes the lipids to disperse and are then secreted through the body’s lymphatic system.
Light therapy also increases blood supply to the skin’s surface. Increased blood flow to the area means more nutrients and oxygen to nourish the skin cells. This also leads to the production of fibroblasts, elastin and collagen in skin cells that aid in the correction and prevention of certain skin issues.
Finally, natural red and near infrared light helps promote antioxidant production , which plays a central role in reducing the oxidative stress associated with cell injury and things like muscle fatigue and joint pain & inflammation. Antioxidants also increase the production of heat proteins — special enzymes that help protect cells from stress and early death.
Light Therapy for Skincare
Light Therapy is 100% natural, chemical – free and drug – free medium to combat signs of aging. Unlike chemical solutions or toners that you apply on your skin, the natural red and infrared light used in the LED lamp penetrates the skin to activate cellular activity. You do not have to let your skin seep all those chemicals that, in the long run, can be toxic for you.
It is a painless, non – ablative and non – invasive procedure. All you need is to bask under the light and let it help produce fibroblasts and collagen to correct signs of skin aging. No need to go under the knife or torture yourself with needles. It does not damage the skin and it requires zero downtime following a session. All you need is about 5 minutes and you can go about your day, apply makeup, go to work etc.
Laboratory studies show that skin cells grow 150 – 200 percent faster when exposed to certain light wavelengths, and research has shown red – light delivers powerful therapeutic benefits to living tissue. This NIR penetrates to the dermis level of your skin stimulating the production of collagen. With collagen red – light therapy treatments your skin is now nourished by your own body. That produces more collagen and thus fills the fine lines and wrinkles. RLT will cause your skin to become smoother and younger looking naturally, hence the anti – aging effects. Red – light therapy is also healthier as a treatment overall, and you will see a better skin tone and feel.
This light therapy is safe and effective for all skin types and has no known adverse side effects. Triveda’s light therapy is FDA – approved and clinically backed for a range of skincare applications.
Because light therapy can help speed up the skin’s ability to heal, it can be used to address numerous problems including the following:
- Wrinkles. Because of loss of collagen, wrinkles start to creep up on our face (or neck). Light therapy helps boost collagen and fibroblasts production to help correct these unsightly tell – tale signs of aging. It works on undereye wrinkles, forehead wrinkles, laugh lines, and crow’s feet.
- Scars and Stretch Marks. Stretch marks are brought about by saggy skin either from weight loss or aging. Collagen depletion from the body results in having loose, stretchy, and saggy skin. Light therapy helps stimulate collagen production thus preventing further development of stretch marks. It also helps lighten and diminish scars and even overall skin tone.
- Acne and Inflamed Acne Marks. Although red light i s not used to kill acne – causing bacteria, it will help reduce the inflammation brought about by acne. Red and Infrared lights penetrate the skin at different levels and power up the cells to repair the skin from within. It repairs the skin tissues that acne has destroyed. This leads to faster healing of the acne and prevents further tissue damage that may lead to pitting acne scars.
- Sun Damage. Red light is a superstar in correcting sun damage. UV – free LED bulbs are used to deliver red light therapy safely and effectively. The red light wavelength spurs cellular activity to help reverse sun damage. It can lighten age spots.
- Rosacea . This drug – free and chemical – free treatment have no reported side effects which also makes it a suitable choice of treatment fo r rosacea. It is non – invasive and is safe for daily use. Because red light can penetrate the skin, it can heal rosacea – related acne without the use of chemicals that make the skin extra sensitive. It has no downtime and is a safe and painless way to treat rosacea.

Light Therapy for Weight Loss
Although it sounds impossible to lose weight by just shining lights on fatty areas of the body, it is backed by science. Researchers have demonstrated that red and infrared light therapy affects adipocytes, cells that store fat, causing the lipids to disperse. In other words, light therapy helps the body wash away fat cells
Light therapy may work in other ways that affect fat and weight loss as well. A 2012 study in the International Journal of Endocrinology showed that light ca n affect hunger levels, which could help prevent the buildup of extra fat before it even begins. This study found that red light helped control levels of the hunger – related hormones leptin and ghrelin in sleep – deprived participants.
You don’t need powerful lasers to blast and remove fat cells. You also do not need to undergo liposuction and other surgeries to remove excess fats. You just need the correct wavelengths between 630 to 850 nm to do the work.
However, if you do not make the necessary lifestyle changes that will support your weight loss, you will not appreciate your results. If you keep on bingeing on salty snacks and junk food, you will retain more liquid and it will cause you to feel bloated. Unhealthy eating also adds more to body fats and weight gain
Light Therapy for Weight Loss
Treatment for Arthritis and Joint Pain
Light therapy speeds up the healing of wounds and injuries to the body and reduces inflammation too. It can improve the range of motion of joints which is a common problem for those who are experiencing arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other forms of joint pains. It helps reduce pain for those who suffer fibromyalgia too.
The reason for this is natural light enhances activity within the lymphatic system, which has been shown to reduce swelling and inflammation.
Light therapy’s positive effects on arthritis, joint pain, and inflammation have been well – documented across hundreds of clinical trials over the last three decades. Conventional medicine manages arthritis symptoms but does not offer a cure. Emerging laboratory research is showing that red light therapy has the potential to treat arthritis at a cellular level and address the root causes.
Photomedicine researchers in Brazil published a study in late 2018 showing that red light therapy decreased all cytokine levels after therapy and increased immune cell populations in mammals. Researchers concluded: “Our results indicate that light therapy could change the inflammatory course of arthritis, tending to accelerate its resolution through immune cells photobiostimulation.”
General Wellness: In addition to treating the conditions mentioned above, light therapy sessions may also provide the following benefits:
Sustained daily energy
Improved skin tone
Dosage, Treatment Times, and Duration
The light therapy beds used by Triveda Wellness are built to allow the optimal dose of red and infrared light to be absorbed by your skin. The devices used by many other clinics and other home – use devices can often be ineffective due to low grade equipment or the placement of the device being too close or too far from your body. Triveda is among the only North Carolina providers that offer a powerful, bed – style red light therapy option, and therefore can assure clients that optimal dosing guidelines are being used during every treatment.
Recommended Exposure Frequency
Weeks 1 – 4: Three to five sessions per week
Weeks 5 – 12: Two to three sessions per week
Weeks 13+: Once or twice per week as needed for maintenance
Treatment Time – The optimal treatment time for red light therapy has been established to be 15 minutes.
Treatment Duration – Generally speaking, one to three months of treatment should be enough to treat most clients. Some individuals may react quicker, and some may take longer to see the full effects of treatment.
